Computer Graphics Designer (#CGRAFDPCMO) PCMO

Performs skilled technical and artistic work designing, illustrating, lettering, laying-out, producing, and reproducing a variety of graphic materials utilizing the application of computer typesetting and electronic graphics utilizing various graphics software packages as well as manual methods.


An Associate's degree or higher in Art, Graphic Art, or Commercial Art; and
Two or more years experience as a graphics or commercial artist.

An equivalent combination of education, training and experience that would reasonably be expected to provide the job-specific competencies noted below.

  • Considerable knowledge of the principles, practices and procedures of the design, layout, and preparation of graphic art work.
  • Considerable knowledge of various graphics software. 
  • Considerable knowledge of computer graphic techniques, electronic generation of type styles, and computerized layout.
  • Considerable knowledge of art materials, supplies, equipment, printing practices, and photographic equipment.
  • Considerable knowledge of automated and manual drafting and graphics techniques.
  • Working knowledge of layout, reproduction, assembly, binding, and distribution of reports, booklets, pamphlets, and other printed matter.
  • Skill in lettering, drawing, free hand sketching, drafting, and preparing materials for display or reproduction.
  • Skill in producing accurate and detailed reproduction of requested graphics.
  • Skill in the use of computer typesetting, electronic graphic equipment, cartographic equipment, and other related equipment utilized for commercial art or drafting purposes.
  • Skill in the development and application of graphic arts.
  • Ability to plan, create, design, and produce attractive and effective art operations at a professional level of competence.
  • Ability to present various data in graphic, pictorial, tabular, and cartographic form.

  • Creates designs and completes graphics work necessary for the preparation of assigned projects for display or reproduction including publication covers, brochures, pamphlets, signs, slides, emblems, charts, graphs, maps, letterheads, certificates, and forms.
  • Creates graphics for the Hillsborough television website to ensure that programming data is current and to inform citizens of upcoming events.
  • Designs, creates and updates computer graphics and artwork for various television purposes, including videotext bulletin board that is displayed between television programs. Records and edits voiceovers for bulletin board.
  • Designs and produces graphics such as slides, forms, transparencies, graphs, and charts for presentations.
  • Confers with department representatives to determine job requirements, budget, concept/design of job, and review of work performed.
  • Edits, manipulates and produces electronic images and layouts in a variety of formats.
  • Designs, lays out and produces art work on posters, display panels, charts, diagrams, maps and signage.
  • Takes pictures with a digital camera for use in various forms of media creation.
  • Maintains electronic and hardcopy archives of all graphic art files.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
