Performs responsible and independent cashiering duties collecting and processing payments and refunds. Reviews work to ensure accuracy. Oversees the activities of lower level Cashiers.


Graduation from high school or possession of a GED Certificate; and
Three years of experience in cashiering work handling money.

An equivalent combination of education, training and experience that would reasonably be expected to provide the job-specific competencies noted below.


A passing score on multiple-choice test number 86.

A passing score on a data entry test at 100 gross keystrokes per minute with 90% accuracy.

  • Oversees, coordinates and reviews the work of lower level cashiers; and provides training, guidance and assistance as needed to ensure the timely and accurate collection of payments and fees.
  • Reviews documents, receipts and payments for correctness; calculates amounts to be collected; and processes payments using a computerized cashiering system.
  • Processes refunds for overpayments in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • Balances collections with receipts and prepares bank deposits.
  • Processes inter organizational charges to ensure the appropriate department/agency is charged for services rendered.
  • Maintains and secures credit card files in order to quickly retrieve records for payments and to settle disputes.
  • Files and maintains records using an alphanumeric system.
  • Responds to inquiries in person, by e-mail and by telephone regarding services provided.
  • Prepares related reports and documents.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
