JOB OVERVIEW

Performs operational control and maintenance duties for cable television equipment and broadcasting systems.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

An Associate's degree in Electrical or Electronics Technology; and
One year of experience in broadcast engineering; and
Possession of a valid Driver's License.

Or
An equivalent combination of education, training and experience that would reasonably be expected to provide the job-specific competencies noted below.

JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES

  • Working knowledge of the operating characteristics and maintenance requirements of audiovisual production and editing systems.
  • Working knowledge of the principles, practices and techniques of cable television production and broadcast engineering.
  • Working knowledge of Federal, State and local laws and regulations governing broadcast television.
  • Working knowledge of standard symbols used in electronic diagrams and schematics.
  • Skill in the diagnosis of equipment malfunctions.
  • Skill in identifying discrepancies between engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Ability to apply the principles, practices and techniques of cable television production and broadcast engineering to audiovisual production and editing systems.
  • Ability to analyze equipment needs and prepare detailed technical specifications.
  • Ability to interpret results of testing procedures.
  • Ability to design, maintain, operate, install and repair broadcast and broadband radio frequency equipment.
  • Ability to work effectively with others.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Willingness to work nights and weekends.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES

  • Measures television video and audio signals to ensure compliance with industry standards and Federal, State & local laws and regulations.
  • Plans and coordinates the setup of equipment for television productions.
  • Installs, calibrates, synchronizes and maintains audiovisual production equipment for studio based live and taped telecasts.
  • Installs, modifies and repairs electronic equipment used to transmit cable television signals.
  • Monitors cable television broadcast system performance and recommends improvements as necessary.
  • Prepares technical bid specifications for the acquisition of radio frequency transmission, video, and audio equipment.
  • Coordinates the maintenance and repair of cable television production and broadcast equipment with manufacturers and service agencies, and monitors contractor performance.
  • Sets up and operates remote production vehicle and microwave system for live television broadcasts.
  • Services and operates test equipment such as waveform monitors, oscilloscopes, radio frequency signal meters, radio test sets, digital multimeter guides, volt/ohmmeters and vectorscopes.
  • Keeps abreast of developments in the technical aspects of cable television industry by attending seminars and conferences, and reading technical publications and journals.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
