JOB OVERVIEW

Performs athletics recreational duties in support of countywide athletics programs and activities. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Graduation from high school or possession of a GED Certificate; and
One year of experience in recreational work; and
Possession of a valid First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certification; and
Possession of a valid Driver's License.

Or
An equivalent combination of education, training and experience that would reasonably be expected to provide the job-specific competencies noted below.

  • Working knowledge of the principles, procedures and practices of public athletic recreation administration.
  • Working knowledge of Hillsborough County ordinances, lease agreements, national and state laws.
  • Working knowledge of athletic recreational programs, individual and team sports including rules, strategy, scheduling and equipment use.
  • Some knowledge of county and department policies and regulations.
  • Ability to plan, organize, prioritize and supervise the work of others.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES

  • Assists in organizing, conducting and supervising existing and new athletic programs.
  • Assists with training seminars for managers, coaches and other volunteers.
  • Assists in the implementation of athletics recreational programs and the coordination of related activities.
  • Trains lower level personnel in the processes of recreational programs.
  • Conducts site visits to ensure compliance with department rules and regulations and checks for unauthorized sports activity.
  • Checks for safety and preventative maintenance of grounds, facilities and equipment.
  • Assists with budget recommendations.
  • Prepares and maintains recreational program records and reports.
  • May be required to work non-standard duty hours.
  • Assists with the collection of fees for field usage, sports programs and sponsorships
  • Assists in developing and marketing new athletic programs.
  • Interacts with internal and external departments, agencies, organizations and leagues.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
