To perform semi-skilled work of moderate difficulty and responsibility in the oiling, lubrication and maintenance of a fleet of light to heavy automotive and/or construction equipment. Employee assists equipment mechanics in the repair and reconditioning of gasoline and diesel engines and related equipment. Work is performed under general supervision of a higher level technical or administrative superior and is evaluated by the effective operation of equipment and maintenance of proper working conditions.


Completion of the tenth grade; and
Two years experience in general mechanical repair or maintenance or servicing of automotive or heavy equipment.

  • Working knowledge of the operation, maintenance and mechanics of the internal combustion engine.
  • Working knowledge of standard methods, tools and equipment of the mechanical repair trade.
  • Working knowledge of the maintenance and basic operation of various types of heavy duty construction equipment.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to perform manual work under adverse weather conditions.

  • Performs various maintenance services, both in field and in shop, such as: fueling, lubricating, performing oil changes, etc., involving both automotive and construction equipment as well as heavy machinery.
  • Operates a truck to carry tools, fuel, lubricants, minor replacement parts and other material required to service automotive equipment in the field.
  • Assists equipment operators in repairs and adjustments such as changing cables, repairing buckets, adjusting tracks or other related work.
  • May maintain or assist in the repair of various mechanical equipment such as pumps, meters or mowers.
  • Operates, moves and manipulates heavy equipment such as bulldozer or dragline or others as required to perform proper servicing.
  • Orders material required for the servicing of automotive equipment and maintains a small inventory of lubricants and minor repair parts.
  • May maintain service records on equipment.
  • Records material and supplies as consumed.
  • May assist Equipment Mechanic in the repair or reconditioning of automotive and heavy construction equipment, either gasoline or diesel operated.
  • Performs such other work assignments as may be required.
