JOB OVERVIEW

Performs duties coordinating the selection and placement of animals with rescue groups and other  animal welfare organizations and placement of animals through the Department’s adoption program.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Graduation from high school or possession of a GED Certificate; and
Two years of experience working in an animal shelter environment, veterinary clinic or animal care facility.

Or
An equivalent combination of education, training and experience that would reasonably be expected to provide the job-specific competencies noted below.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES

Depending on assigned area of responsibility, incumbents in the position may perform one or more of the activities described below.

  • As a member of the Department’s HART (Humane and Responsible Team), coordinates the evaluation of animals with internal staff to determine their suitability for placement with rescue groups or animal welfare organization or for adoption through the Department’s adoption program.
  • Coordinates the selection, placement and pick up of animals by animal rescue/welfare groups.
  • Communicates with citizens regarding animals selected thru the Department’s open access adoption program.
  • Evaluates applications submitted to the Department by animal rescue groups/welfare organizations for accuracy and completeness, maintains records of groups/organizations approved to adopt animals from the Department.
  • Works with staff to coordinate the placement of animals in foster care or transition homes for investigation purposes; provides food and medication and advises of return date to department.
  • Maintains computerized records documenting adoptions, animal placement, conversations with citizens, animal health issues or other topics as required by Department policy.
  • Responds to questions from adopters regarding such topics as Department policies, adoptions, animal behavior or health issues.
  • Supports the Department in mandated ESF-17 (Emergency Support Function 17) responsibilities in the event of a disaster or during an activation of the County’s
  • Emergency Operations Center.
  • Attends department meetings and events as required.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
