JOB OVERVIEW

Performs entry level professional accounting duties involving the maintenance and review of accounting and fiscal records and preparation of financial statements. Work is of a standardized nature that may involve a variety of accounting duties. The work in this class is at the full-performance level and of a greater complexity and/or volume than that performed at the level of Accounting Clerk III.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

A Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance.

An equivalent combination of education, training and experience that would reasonably be expected to provide the job-specific competencies noted below.

JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES

  • Knowledge of governmental accounting principles, practices, procedures, methods, and theory.
  • Knowledge of laws, rules, and policies governing assigned functional accounting area.
  • Knowledge of computer operations using accounting and spreadsheet applications.
  • Ability to develop computer based spreadsheets, graphs, summaries, and reports.
  • Ability to post, balance and reconcile financial accounts and records.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES

  • Maintains financial records, accounts, ledgers, and journals.
  • Analyzes and audits accounting and fiscal data, records and reports for a smaller department/agency or as part of a functional business unit.
  • Prepares standard journal entries and posts transactions to proper accounts.
  • Prepares summaries, trial balances, and related reports and statements for assigned functional business unit.
  • May oversee the preparation and maintenance of time and leave reports, payroll records and pay vouchers.
  • Receives funds, prepares deposits, and reconciles bank statements.
  • Conducts field audits within the scope of assigned functional business unit.
  • Reconciles and balances financial statements and accounting records and ledgers.
  • Prepares operating budgets.
  • Composes correspondence.
  • Performs related work as required.
