IDEAL CANDIDATE PROFILE

The ideal candidate will have:

  • three (3) years of clerical experience, two (2) of which consist of direct experience working with legal documents
  • broad knowledge of the criminal court system
  • experience reading and comprehending office-related materials to include legal terminology commonly used in courts
  • effective communication skills and experience providing excellent customer service telephonically and/or in person to the public, judges, judicial assistant and attorneys
  • the ability to sit for long periods of time
  • experience processing payments
  • experience writing complete and concise court notes for a long period of time
  • experience prioritizing and multi-tasking as well as being diligent in paying close attention to detail
  • the flexibility to occasionally work beyond the normal 8 to 5 work day

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Graduation from high school or possession of a GED Certificate; and
Three years of clerical experience; including
Two years of experience in the processing, examining, preparing or reviewing of any type of legal document and cashiering experience.

TESTING REQUIREMENTS

A passing score on a general clerical exam.

  • Knowledge of functions, requirements, objectives, and/or services provided by various agencies and departments.

  • Skills of providing excellent customer service via phone, e-mail, or in person.
  • Good organizational and information research skills.
  • Good communication, listening, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with others within and outside own organization. 
  • Ability to pay attention to detail and multitasking. 
  • Ability to correctly verify alphanumeric data via legal documents, court cases, or reports.
  • Ability to use a computer and keyboard to update data, and/or other office equipment to quickly and accurately process data.
  • Ability to balance cash drawer/checks.
  • Ability to maintain confidential information and professional discretion.
  • Ability to work as part of a team, as well as independently.  

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES

Note: The following duties are illustrative and not exhaustive. Depending on assigned area of responsibility, incumbents in the position may perform one or more of the activities described below. 

    

  • Provides efficient customer service and information concerning all types of cases and general court procedures to the 13th Judicial, State Attorney’s Office, Public Defender’s office, HCSO, Department of Corrections, DHSMV, bond agents, private attorneys, and the public.  
  • Perform quality control for various court areas.
  • Process payments (Cashier) for all court types using multiple computer systems.
  • Cross-train to process legal documents for various court types.
  • Interact professionally with a broad range of customers, such as attorneys, members of the Judiciary, government agencies, law enforcement and the public.
  • Enter, create and process new cases and subsequent filings into the Case Management System.
  • Process case Management System queues and workflows.
  • Process time sensitive documents, e.g., Court Orders, Capias Recalls, Judge’s memos, bonds, and appeals.
  • Understand and apply legal authorities, e.g., Florida Statutes, Rules of Procedures and Administrative Orders.
  • Prepare letters, memos, and reports as necessary.
  • Backup front counter.
  • Scan pleadings to queue and attaches to events in the Case Management System.
  • Sets court dates for various hearing types in any of the criminal court areas.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

Conclusion
