JOB OVERVIEW

Design and implement water conservation educational programs for homeowners. This program will encompass the organization and implementation of workshops (weekdays, nights, and weekends), demonstrations, exhibits and other educational events. Assist the public with answers to questions on water conservation strategies. Order supplies for educational programs (to include hand-outs, microirrigation kits, hose nozzles, etc.) Promote the program through the media via press releases, feature articles, radio, television, webpage, Facebook and other social marketing techniques. Evaluate effectiveness of program and make recommendations for improvements. Monthly and quarterly reports are required, as is attendance and participation in extension office and horticulture program monthly meetings. Familiarity with Florida plants and cultural practices. Prior teaching experience. Presentation and organizational skills required. Must possess a valid Florida driver's license or have a means of transportation.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Graduation from high school or possession of a GED Certificate and Two (2) years of college education completed with coursework focused in education, science, or related field.

OR

Two (2) years of working in a greenhouse, nursery or other horticulture work or enterprise.

AND

  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Must successfully pass background screening.
  • Possession of a valid Florida Driver's License.
  • Use of a reliable automobile.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Responsible for set-up and clean-up daily.
• Accept and promote the Affirmative Action Plan of Hillsborough County and the Florida Cooperative Extension Service.
• Complete reports and pre/post tests as required.
• Other duties as assigned.

• Ability to interact with and educate homeowners and members of the public on water conservation strategies

  • Employee Assistance Program: This program provides all employees and family members with professional, confidential counseling sessions. All employees and dependents are afforded up to six (6) free visits per Plan year. Coverage begins on the first day of employment.
  • Tuition Reimbursement: Employees may be reimbursed up to $1,000 (undergraduate), $2000 (graduate) per fiscal year for classes at an accredited college or university for courses that enhance your ability to perform your current job duties.
  • Holidays: Employees receive up to twelve (12) paid holidays per year.
