GIS Analyst I

Responsibilities

Collects, manipulates, updates and maintains spatial data, including but not limited to: water, sanitary sewer, storm sewer, and other public infrastructure systems and other organizational/operational data. Integrates relational database management systems and incorporates all types of geographically referenced data. Evaluates GPS and conventional survey control data. Creates and maintains maps; performs utility mapping analysis. Prepares and exports GIS data based on internal and external agencies' request. Researches and interprets source documentation, including correspondence, legal documents and construction plans. Ensures GIS data meets the National Geographic Society (NGS) federal standards. Incumbent is expected to stay abreast of computer and query technologies, data input and manipulation, and database standards relevant to GIS data.

Minimum Qualifications

Must meet one of the following requirements:

1.  Bachelor's degree in Geographic Information Systems, Computer Science, Information Systems, Geography, Statistics, Urban Planning, Cartography, Civil Engineering,
or closely related field with an emphasis on GIS applications; OR

2.  Associate's degree in Geographic Information Systems, Computer Science, Information Systems, Geography, Statistics, Urban Planning, Cartography, Civil Engineering,
or closely related field with an emphasis on GIS applications AND 2 years of experience working with GIS, CAD and/or surveying.  Knowledge of ESRI products is desirable.

Degree must be from a college or university that is accredited by the U.S. Department of Education through the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools Higher Learning Commission or equivalent region.

License Requirements

Must possess a valid driver’s license at time of appointment and maintain thereafter as a term and condition of continued employment.

Background Check

A background investigation and evidence of Employment Authorization and Identity is required prior to employment. All candidates must pass any level of background investigation applicable to the position, including current city employees seeking transfer, promotion, demotion, etc. into a classified position.

Medical Examination & Drug and Nicotine Testing

Final appointment is contingent upon the applicant passing a job-related medical examination including drug screen. Applicants offered employment with the City will be required to pass a nicotine screening. Newly hired employees must remain tobacco and nicotine free as a condition of continued employment. The Tobacco and Nicotine Free Hiring Policy does not apply to current City employees.
