Responsibilities

Recreation Facility Specialist I oversee the daily operations of recreation sports and park programs at an assigned facility. The incumbent promotes activities by providing information to the public on recreation programs available through all City locations. Supervises, trains, and evaluates numerous staff members (i.e. employees, volunteers, contractual positions such as scorekeepers, officials/umpires, and concession-stand workers) for both youth and adult recreation programs. The Recreation Facility Specialist I coordinates with Public Works to ensure the upkeep and maintenance of the grounds, courts, parks and equipment, and parking lots of their assigned facility. The incumbent is also accountable for all record keeping and reporting of daily revenues, program revenues, incident/accident reports and budget development.

Minimum Qualifications

Associate's degree or higher in Recreation Administration, Physical Education, Sports Management, Leisure Services, Business Administration, Communications or a related field AND one year of full-time paid supervisory/leadership experience;

OR

High School diploma (or G.E.D.) AND 6 years of full-time or 7 years of part-time (part-time defined as having worked on average 35 hours/week) paid supervisory/leadership experience in recreation, athletic or leisure time activities.

Degree must be from a college or university that is accredited by the U.S. Department of Education through the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools Higher Learning Commission or equivalent region. 

License Requirements

Must have a valid driver's license at time of appointment and maintain as a condition of employment.

Special Requirements

Within 6 months of appointment, the following certifications must be obtained and maintained as a condition of continued employment:

•First Aid and Adult/Child Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) with Automated External Defibrillator (AED)

•Certified Pool Operator (CPO) and Certified Park and Recreation Professional (CPRP)

Background Check 
A background investigation and evidence of Employment Authorization and Identity is required prior to employment. All candidates must pass any level of background investigation applicable to the position, including current city employees seeking transfer, promotion, demotion, etc. into a classified position. 

Medical Examination & Drug and Nicotine Testing 
Final appointment is contingent upon the applicant passing a job-related medical examination including drug screen. Applicants offered employment with the City will be required to pass a nicotine screening. Newly hired employees must remain tobacco and nicotine free as a condition of continued employment. The Tobacco and Nicotine Free Hiring Policy does not apply to current City employees.
