GIS Analyst II

Responsibilities

The GIS Analyst II assists in designing, implementing, and maintaining Geographic Information Systems (GIS) to support management and operational decisions. Activities of incumbent include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Integrates GIS functionality into departmental databases and business applications. 
  • Prepares GIS application designs, modifications, and documentation, including needs analysis, database and program designs. 
  • Creates and maintains relational database designs of data structures within a spatial database. 
  • Manages training on various GIS or CAD software applications for use within the department and maintains standards for the common digital base map (planimetrics), map layers and/or GIS standards. 
  • Participates in the selection of GIS, CAD and other Geographic related software and computer systems; identifies problems encountered with software and recommends corrective action as needed. 
  • Develops computer programs using software tools such as Visual Basic, Python, Silverlight, Java, HTML to supplement GIS/CAD software functions. 
  • Maintains GIS and CAD software licenses and support agreements. 
  • Assigns, reviews, and supervises the work of the GIS Analyst I and may act as a GIS Coordinator in his/her absence. 
  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.

Minimum Qualifications

Must meet one of the following qualifications:

  1. Bachelor's degree in Geographic Information Systems, Computer Science, Information Systems, Geography, Urban Planning, Cartography, Civil Engineering or closely related field AND 2 years of experience in one of the following areas: GIS programming; GIS database software administration support, (installing, updating and usage); GIS applications for Utilities(gas, water, electric), Environmental and Public Safety; OR 
  2. Associate's degree in Geographic Information Systems, Computer Science, Information Systems, Geography, Urban Planning, Cartography, Civil Engineering or closely related field AND 6 years of experience in one of the following areas: GIS programming; GIS database software administration support, (installing, updating and usage); GIS applications for Utilities(gas, water, electric), Environmental and Public Safety. 

Degree must be from a college or university that is accredited by the U.S. Department of Education through the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools Higher Learning Commission or equivalent region.

License Requirements

Must possess a valid driver’s license at time of appointment and maintain thereafter as a term and condition of continued employment.

Background Check 
A background investigation and evidence of Employment Authorization and Identity is required prior to employment. Final appointment is contingent upon the applicant passing a job-related medical examination including drug screen.
