Responsibilities

Analyzes need, implementation standards, provides training and maintains computer desktop systems.  Conducts feasibility studies on microcomputer applications and equipment to replace and/or enhance current systems.  The incumbent works in conjunction with other appropriate IT staff members in developing and carrying out standards that keep the network secure.  The incumbent will assist and train customers on products as a standard operation from the wall (active network jacks) to the desktop, including printers (responsible for printer administration from the server to the printer) and all peripherals.  Recommends any changes in standard equipment used in the department and signs off on the purchase of the recommended software to ensure that any hardware purchased is within standards.  The incumbent is responsible for installation of all desktop units and peripherals including software and printers.  Must develop and maintain a good relationship with the Customer Support Specialist and keep the Help Desk abreast of any concerns or problems.  The incumbent is on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, year round on a rotational basis

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a closely related field AND 1 year of experience in computer operations or in providing technical computer support

OR 

Associate's degree in Computer Science or a closely related field AND 3 years of experience in computer operations or in providing technical computer support 

OR 

High School diploma (or G.E.D.) AND 5 years of experience in computer operations or in providing technical computer support, AND must possess at least 1 of the listed certifications at time of application. 

Degree must be from a college or university that is accredited by the U.S. Department of Education through the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools Higher Learning Commission or equivalent region.

Certifications

Listed below are the preferred certifications for applicants with degrees. Non-degreed applicant must possess a minimum of 1 of the listed certifications or a closely related/comparable certification at the time of appointment.

  • Microsoft 365 Certified: Modern Desktop Administrator Associate 
  • CompTIA A+, CompTIA Network+, CompTIA Security + 
  • HDI- Desktop Advanced Support Technician 
  • ITIL Foundation 
 Note: In the instance that a certification is retired, an equivalent replacement certification will be considered.

License Requirements

Must possess a valid driver’s license at time of appointment and maintain thereafter as a term and condition of continued employment.

Background Check 
A background investigation and evidence of Employment Authorization and Identity is required prior to employment. All candidates must pass any level of background investigation applicable to the position, including current city employees seeking transfer, promotion, demotion, etc. into a classified position.

Final appointment is contingent upon the applicant passing a job-related medical examination including drug screen.
