Responsibilities

Provides the public with information on the mediation process, as well as other conflict resolution processes. Performs intake services and works with customers to increase their awareness and understanding of the mediation and conflict resolution services offered by the Mediation Center. Incumbent develops new referral sources, provides case management services including organizational conflict and team building consultation services, and collaborates in strategic planning. Conducts and supervises mediations, including Saturday and weekday evenings, leads trainings, prepares reports and compiles data. Assists in the planning, development and execution of new volunteer training, and provides on-going support to volunteer mediators. Presents training and educational workshops for the public and fosters relationships with community members, courts and other agencies to maintain existing programs, creates and expands mediation services and conducts research to further the goals of the Center.

The incumbent selected for this position will be responsible for providing conflict intervention services as related to the City of Dayton's Police Reform Initiative and the recommendation from its working groups to improve trust and communication between the community and the Dayton Police Department.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Conflict Management, Criminal Justice, or a closely related field AND 3 years of experience as a practitioner in mediation or alternative dispute resolution.

Certification by the Institute for the Study of Conflict Transformation, Inc. OR from the Dayton Mediation Center as a "Master Mediator" may be substituted for 2 years of experience.

Degree must be from a college or university that is accredited by the U.S. Department of Education through the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools Higher Learning Commission or equivalent region. 

Certifications

Certification by the Institute for the Study of Conflict Transformation, Inc. OR from the Dayton Mediation Center as a Master Mediator is preferred within one year of appointment.

License Requirements

Must possess a valid driver’s license at time of appointment and maintain thereafter as a term and condition of continued employment.

Appointment to positions in this classification will require applicants to pass a police background investigation. Final permanent appointment is contingent upon the applicant passing a job-related medical examination, including drug screen, and providing documentary evidence of Employment Authorization and Identity.
