Introduction



Responsibilities

Incumbent performs skilled machining work in fabrication, repair and maintenance of a variety of parts and equipment made of metal, wood, and plastic.  Work includes, but is not limited to, machining, fabricating and repairing parts for water hydrants, fire vehicles, fire equipment, automotive equipment, jigs, fixtures and gauges.  Maintains safety, breathing, and life-support equipment including complete servicing of breathing air compressors.  Welds, brazes, and performs other operations required in the construction and repair of equipment.

Minimum Qualifications

Graduation from high school (or G.E.D.), AND 5 years of experience as a journey worker machinist.

Certifications

Must obtain certification for repairing Self Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) within 6 months of appointment, and maintain any and all manufacturer's recommended training/certifications for equipment used by the Dayton Fire Department as a term and condition of continued employment.

License Requirements

Must possess a valid driver’s license at time of appointment and maintain thereafter as a term and condition of continued employment.

Applications must specifically address each of the minimum qualifications, directly showing how each is met. Appointment to positions in this classification will require applicants to pass a police background investigation. Final permanent appointment is contingent upon the applicant passing a job-related medical examination, including drug screen, and providing documentary evidence of Employment Authorization and Identity required by the Immigration and Nationality Act.
