Introduction



Nature of Work

This is advanced inspection work, ensuring compliance with municipal public works project plans and specifications. Responsible for inspecting concrete, pipe, steel, water and sewer piping systems, and various types of stone and related building materials for quality and compliance with specifications and construction standards. Works with contractors and property owners to resolve or prevent problems. Inspects City utilities, gas, water, sewer, and related mains, ensuring they are kept in service.

Minimum Education

Must meet one of the following:

1. Associates degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering Technology, or a closely related field; OR

2. Graduation from high school (or G.E.D.) AND 4 years of experience in government or private construction, surveying, inspection or drafting.


Degree must be from a college or university that is accredited by the U.S. Department of Education through the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools Higher Learning Commission or equivalent region.

License Requirements

Must possess a valid driver's license at time of appointment and maintain thereafter as a term and condition of continued employment.

Promotional Qualifications

Must be a full-time permanent employee in pay grade 123 (Wage) or below, pay grade 29 (Clerical) or below, or equivalent, and been employed for 6 consecutive months by the City of Dayton in a classified Civil Service position. Identical scores will be broken by (1) seniority and (2) random selection method.
