Introduction

Nature of Work

Establishes bus routes and student bus assignments; evaluates and determines the availability of transportation needs; recommends and monitors safe student pick-up and drop-off locations; utilizes computer and applicable software programs; reviews and adjusts GPS systems; maintains all records and reports involving the routing for all DPS public and non-public school bus transportation.

Minimum Education

Graduation from high school (or G.E.D.).

Minimum Experience

Must have a minimum of 5 years of experience as a School Bus Driver OR 2 years of experience in bus scheduling and dispatching as a transportation router.

License Requirements

Must possess a valid driver’s license at time of appointment and maintain thereafter as a term and condition of continued employment.

Citizenship

Must be a U.S. citizen or have the legal right to work in the United States at time of application.

Military Credit

Open Competitive applicants who have had military service will receive an additional credit of 20% if a passing grade is attained. TO OBTAIN CREDIT, A NON-RETURNABLE COPY OF THE DD214 OR CERTIFICATE OF SERVICE (INDICATING HONORABLE DISCHARGE) MUST BE PRESENTED AT TIME OF EXAMINATION.

Promotional Qualifications

Current full-time permanent employment with Dayton Public Schools must be indicated on your application in order to receive promotional credit. Current employment will be verified by Dayton Public Schools Human Resources Department. Identical scores will be broken by (1) seniority and (2) random selection method.

Open Competitive Applicants

Applicants appearing on the Promotional eligible list shall be considered for appointment prior to those on the Open Competitive list. Identical exam scores will be broken in favor of: (1) the candidate who received military credit and (2) random selection method.

Final appointment may be contingent upon the applicant passing a job-related medical examination, drug screen and/or police background investigation and providing documentary evidence of Employment Authorization and Identity. Applicants are responsible for providing all necessary employment dates, experience, training, or any other requirements as stated in the Exam Announcement, in order for their application to be considered for certification and admittance to the examination process.
