Introduction


This is a continuous recruitment that may be available year round.  Applications are reviewed for certification on a quarterly basis.  Applicants that meet the minimum qualifications for this position will be permitted to take the Civil Service examination.  Applicants will be notified of their status via email and may only apply once per quarter.  

Please note, you MUST apply in each quarter for which you wish to be tested.  Applicants who have submitted previous applications WILL NOT automatically be certified for future exams.

Nature of Work

Repair and maintain district buses, cars, vans and other vehicles to prevent disruptions to the educational process.  Must be able to repair electrical equipment, fuel injectors and pumps, rebuild engines, electrical systems, air and hydraulic brake systems, rebuild front and rear suspension, inspect and replace all drive train components, perform routine preventative maintenance and emergency service calls for stranded vehicles.

Minimum Experience

Must have 3 years of experience in vehicle maintenance work including thorough knowledge of diesel and gas engine management systems, anti-lock brake systems, emission control systems, and engine diagnostic equipment.  Two years of trade school in the field will count towards 2 years of experience.  Experience repairing buses is preferred.

License Requirements

Must possess a valid driver's license at time of appointment and maintain thereafter as a term and condition of continued employment.  Must be able to obtain an Ohio Class A Commercial Driver's License (C.D.L.) with school passenger endorsements within 6 months of appointment.

General Requirements

IF HIRED, MUST PROVIDE OWN HAND TOOLS.  Must be able to successfully pass an Ohio Department of Education T8 physical, lift a minimum of 75 pounds and be physically able to climb, stand, lift and bend for extended periods of time.

Citizenship

Must be a U.S. citizen or have the legal right to work in the United States at time of application.

Military Credit

Open Competitive applicants who have had military service will receive an additional credit of 20% if a passing grade is attained.  TO OBTAIN CREDIT, A NON-RETURNABLE COPY OF THE DD214 OR CERTIFICATE OF SERVICE (INDICATING HONORABLE DISCHARGE) MUST BE PRESENTED AT TIME OF EXAMINATION.


Notes

In the event of identical exam scores, the tie will be broken in favor of the candidate who received military credit.  If a tie score still exists, the tie will be broken by a random selection method.

Examination dates and times are subject to change.  Calculators will be provided for the Civil Service examination.  Final appointment is contingent upon the applicant passing a job-related medical examination, drug screen and/or police background investigation and providing documentary evidence of Employment Authorization and Identity.  Applicants are responsible for providing all necessary employment dates, experience, training, or any other requirements as stated in the Exam Announcement, in order for their application to be considered for certification and admittance to the examination process.
