Introduction
Nature of Work
Performs skilled work creating, designing, evaluating, repairing, installing, and maintaining structures and facilities owned or operated by the District. Conducts repairs and maintenance according to applicable building codes, state, local and department requirements. Must be able to work from plans, specifications and blueprints. Estimates and researches costs of carpentry repair projects in terms of labor, material, and overhead; recommends the purchase of supplies and equipment. Inspects district owned facilities on a regular basis to identify and document preventative maintenance and corrective maintenance tasks. Must have knowledge of carpentry-related building codes and safety regulations.
Minimum Education
Graduation from high school (or G.E.D.).
Minimum Experience
Must have 5 years of related experience as a journeyman in carpentry repair and maintenance work.
License Requirements
Must possess a valid driver’s license at time of appointment and maintain thereafter as a term and condition of continued employment.
General Requirements
- Must be able to perform duties requiring physical strength including considerable use of both arms, hands, feet, legs, and ability to climb, lift, balance, walk and stoop while handling materials.
- Ablility to lift, maneuver and carry materials weighing 50 pounds regularly and in excess of 100 pounds periodically.
- Capable of climbing ladders and working from heights.
- Ability to read, write and understand blueprints.
Citizenship
Must be a U.S. citizen or have the legal right to work in the United States at time of application.
Military Credit
Open Competitive applicants who have had military service will receive an additional credit of 20% if a passing grade is attained.
To obtain credit, a NON-RETURNABLE copy of the DD214 OR Certificate of Service (INDICATING HONORABLE DISCHARGE) must be UPLOADED to your application or PRESENTED at time of examination.
Promotional Qualifications
Current full-time permanent employment with Dayton Public Schools must be indicated on your application in order to receive promotional credit. Current employment will be verified by Dayton Public Schools’ Human Resources Department. Identical scores will be broken by (1) seniority and (2) random selection method.
Open Competitive Applicants
Applicants appearing on the Promotional eligible list shall be considered for appointment prior to those on the Open Competitive list. Identical scores will be broken in favor of: (1) the candidate who received military credit and (2) random selection method.
Notes
Examination dates and times are subject to change. Calculators will be provided for the Civil Service examination. Final appointment is contingent upon the applicant passing a job-related medical examination, drug screen and/or police background investigation and providing documentary evidence of Employment Authorization and Identity.
