Nature of Work
Repair and service boilers, heating systems, hot water heating and steam condensate pumps. Services modern HVAC equipment such as heat pumps and Geothermal heating and cooling systems. Performs skilled plumbing work, painting internal and exterior buildings; replaces and repairs ceramic and composition floor and wall coverings. Installs, maintains and repairs high voltage electrical circuits and equipment. Performs general carpentry work including construction, alteration and repair of roofs, stairways, doors, wood fixtures and furniture. Installs forms for cement work and pours and finishes cement for building beam footers.
Graduation from high school (or G.E.D.).
1. Must have 3 years of experience in building maintenance including 2 years of experience in the operation, repair and maintenance of heating and cooling systems (HVAC).
2. Must have 2 years of skilled experience in the maintenance of residential, commercial or industrial electrical systems OR
successful completion of an approved electrical training program.
Must possess a valid driver's license at time of appointment and maintain thereafter as a term and condition of continued employment. Within 120 days of appointment, must obtain and maintain a valid Ohio Class A Commercial Driver's License (C.D.L.), including the qualification to operate a vehicle with air brakes and any other endorsements required by the State of Ohio. Out of state residents must have equivalent licenses from their state of residence within the prescribed 120 days of appointment.
Must be a full-time permanent employee in pay grade 121 (Wage) or below, pay grade 29 (Clerical) or below, or equivalent, and been employed for 6 consecutive months by the City of Dayton in a classified Civil Service position. Identical scores will be broken by (1) seniority and (2) random selection method.

Final appointment is contingent upon the applicant passing a job-related medical examination and providing documentary evidence of Employment Authorization and Identity. Identical scores will be broken by a random selection method.
Examination dates and times are subject to change. Calculators will be provided for the Civil Service examination. Applicants appearing on the Promotional eligible list shall be considered prior to those on the Open Competitive list. Police background investigation will be required. Final appointment is contingent upon the applicant passing a drug screen. Applicants are responsible for providing all necessary employment dates, experience, training, or any other requirements as stated in the Exam Announcement, in order for their application to be considered for certification and admittance to the examination process
