Responsible for the performance of various clerical and administrative duties requiring the use of considerable judgment skills. Interviews applicants to determine scope of proposed work; approves and issues permits for mechanical work, minor construction, alteration and repairs of structures. Provides permit information and answers questions from designers, applicants and contractors. Verifies cost estimates, computes permit fees, processes submitted plans, and completes permit applications. Maintains inspection scheduling records, coordinates with inspectors in the field, and prepares reports and schedules for inspectors and manager.
Graduation from high school (or G.E.D.).
Must have 2 years of clerical experience related to engineering or construction technology (engineering, construction, or architectural operation) or code enforcement work. One year of college level course work in engineering, construction technology, or any construction related science may be substituted for one year of experience.
Must possess a valid driver’s license at time of appointment and maintain thereafter as a term and condition of continued employment.
Must be able to type 35 net words per minute.
Must be a full-time permanent (or part-time permanent) employee in pay grade 111 (Wage) or below, pay grade 20 (Clerical) or below, or equivalent, and been employed for 6 consecutive months by the City of Dayton in a classified Civil Service position. Identical scores will be broken by (1) seniority and (2) random selection method.
Applicants appearing on the Promotional eligible list shall be considered for appointment prior to those on the Open Competitive list. Identical scores will be broken in favor of: (1) the candidate who received military credit and (2) random selection method.
