Introduction


Responsibilities

This is a multi-incumbent position with assignments in the Department of Aviation, Public Works and Water. Senior Engineer II's develop, coordinate, design, and manage capital improvement and master plan projects for the city. Incumbents must coordinate, schedule, and review the work of engineering staff members so that projects and tasks are technically sound and completed on schedule.

The current vacancy is in the Department of Water - Design Bureau where the incumbent is responsible for developing, coordinating, designing and managing capital improvement and master plan projects. Writes Requests for Proposals and prepares cost estimates and contract documents relevant to the Capital Improvement Program. Coordinates and manages engineering design work, construction design work, and construction activities, and oversees inspections to ensure projects are technically sound and completed on schedule. Prepares pay applications and change orders for approval; works with city, state, and private engineering firms, contractors, and crews to verify quality work is performed and construction time frames are met. Supervises and reviews the work of engineering, surveying and design staff. Incumbents must maintain a broad knowledge of engineering theory and practice in all phases of civil engineering and surveying.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Engineering AND 8 years of experience in designing and/or construction of capital improvement projects.

Degree must be from a college or university that is accredited by the U.S. Department of Education through the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools Higher Learning Commission or equivalent region. 

License Requirements

  • Must be registered as a Professional Engineer (P.E.) by the State of Ohio or be able to obtain registration through a reciprocity agreement.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license at time of appointment and maintain thereafter as a term and condition of continued employment.

Appointment to positions in this classification will require applicants to pass a police background investigation. Final permanent appointment is contingent upon the applicant passing a job-related medical examination, including drug screen, and providing documentary evidence of Employment Authorization and Identity.
