Nature and Scope
The IT Security
Manager is responsible for overseeing and maintaining the security, integrity,
and accessibility of the Division’s IT systems and networks. This position
ensures that all IT security functions are effectively managed and that
security risks are identified and mitigated in a timely manner.
The IT Security
Manager reports to the Director of IT Security and plays a key role in managing
the security posture of the Division. This position is responsible for
supervising day-to-day IT security tasks, addressing support requests, and
developing security policies and procedures. The IT Security Manager also leads
IT security audits and evaluations to ensure that the Division’s IT systems are
secure and compliant with best practices. This role requires strong leadership
and communication skills to interact with both technical teams and senior
management.
Principal Accountabilities
- Supervise Network Technicians to ensure timely and
effective resolution of IT security support requests and project tasks.
- Act as an escalation point for IT security-related
support needs.
- Evaluate and provide feedback on the performance of
subordinates, offering support, coaching or disciplinary action when
necessary.
- Develop both short- and long-term plans to ensure the
security, integrity, and accessibility of all IT systems including
desktops, servers, and network equipment.
- Assess and recommend IT security solutions and
equipment purchases that align with the Division’s security objectives.
- Assist in the creation and updating of IT security
policies, standards, and procedures related to desktops, laptops, servers,
and access controls.
- Participate in or lead IT security audits to verify
that security measures are in place and effective across the Division’s IT
infrastructure.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Technical Expertise: In-depth knowledge of IT systems, including
desktops, servers, and networking hardware and software.
- Security Assessments: Ability to conduct security assessments, audits, and
vulnerability analysis of IT systems.
- Problem Solving: Strong ability to identify and resolve security
risks and vulnerabilities promptly.
- Leadership: Proven
leadership skills with the ability to motivate, manage, and develop a team
of technicians.
- Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to
interact effectively with staff at all levels of the organization.
- Policy Development: Ability to create and document IT security policies
and procedures.
- Risk Management: Experience in identifying potential security threats
and recommending proactive measures to mitigate those risks.
Minimum Qualifications
- Experience:
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in general IT, with
hands-on knowledge of IT systems, including desktops, servers, and
networking hardware/software.
- At least 1 year of experience in a security-focused
role, including performing security audits and assessments of IT systems.
- Experience developing and implementing IT security
policies, standards, and procedures.
- Skills:
- Proficient in IT security frameworks and industry
best practices.
- Strong written skills for creating comprehensive
reports, documentation, and corrective action plans.
- Familiarity with network security tools, firewalls,
intrusion detection systems, and other security technologies.
- Additional Requirements:
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage
multiple priorities.
- Ability to communicate complex IT security concepts
to non-technical staff.
