Nature and Scope

THIS IS TECHNICAL EMERGENCY COMMUNICATIONS WORK UTILIZING A COMMUNICATIONS VAN AND ITS ON-BOARD COMMUNICATIONS EQUIPMENT AND OTHER MATERIAL.  THE WORK INVOLVES THE DRIVING OF A MOBILE COMMUNICATIONS COMMAND VEHICLE AND OPERATING METHODS OF SAME.

Principal Accountabilities

PREPARES, DRIVES, AND SETS UP MOBILE COMMAND CENTER VAN FOR USE DURING CRIME SCENES, NATURAL AND MAN-MADE DISASTERS, AS WELL AS DEMONSTRATIONS.  DISTRIBUTES SUPPLIES AND EQUIPMENT FROM MOBILE COMMAND CENTER VAN AND ENSURES ITS RETURN.  DISPATCHES AND RECEIVES INFORMATION TO MOBILE UNITS.  PORTABLE UNITS AND COMMUNICATIONS CENTERS USING TH E PUBLIC SAFETY  10-CODE, TWO-WAY RADIOS, SCANNING MONITORS, TELEPHONE AND A COMPUTER AIDED DISPATCH.  PLOTS INFORMATION RECEIVED ON GRIDDED AERIAL PHOTOS TO ENSURE EASE OF LOCATION OF MANPOWER RESOURCES.  RETURNS MOBILE COMMAND CENTER VAN TO HEADQUARTERS AND PLACES SAME IN A STATE OF READINESS.

Minimum Qualifications

GENUINE INTEREST AND ENTHUSIASM IN THE OPERATION OF THE MOBILE COMMAND CENTER IN NON-EMERGENCY AND EMERGENCY SITUATIONS.  MINIMUM TWO YEARS EXPERIENCE IN A COMMUNICATIONS POSITION  UTILIZING COMPUTER AIDED DISPATCH AND PERFORMING AT THE SENIOR LEVEL.  POSSESSION OF A VALID DELAWARE OPERATORS LICENSE.  ABILITY TO LEARN DRIVING SKILLS REQUIRED TO OPERATE A LARGE VEHICLE.  KNOWLEDGE OF THE PUBLIC SAFETLY 10-CODE AND RADIO PROCEDURES.  ABILITY TO LEARN AND KNOW HOW TO UTILIZE GENERAL CAPABILITIES OF THE MOBILE COMMAND CENTER AND ITS ON-BOARD SPECIALIZED EQUIPMENT.  ABILITY TO SPEAK CLEARLY AND DISTINCTLY.  ABILITY TO MEET TRAINING REQUIREMENTS OF THE UNIT WITH NO MORE THAN ONE EXCUSED ABSENCE.  ABILITY TO BE AVAILABLE FOR A 24 HOUR ON-CALL SERVICE, AND CARRY A PAGER, AND RESPOND WITHIN A TIMELY MANNER.    SUCCESSFUL COMPLETION OF PERMIT FOR CDL B W/AIRBRAKE ENDORSEMENT WITHIN 2 MONTHS OF ACCEPTANCE TO THE POSITION.  SUCCESSFUL COMPLETION OF DSP DRIVING PROGRAM - PROGRAM CONSISTS OF 3 DAY DART DRIVING PROGRAM (NEED A POSITIVE REVIEW) AND SUCCESSFUL COMPLETION OF DSP DRIVING PROGRAM (BOTH DAY AND NIGHT DRIVING)  SUCCESSFULLY OBTAIN CDL B W/AIR BRAKE ENDORSEMENT WITHIN 6 MONTHS OF OBTAINING PERMIT.  MUST HAVE DRIVEN THE VEHICLE WITHIN 6 MONTHS OR TAKE A RECERT.
