Summary Statement

This position is responsible for overseeing and giving informed consents for the delivery of care and medical services to clients of the Office of the Public Guardian. Guardian Case Managers serve to coordinate housing, medicine, medical procedures, and other necessary items for the activities of daily living. The Office of the Public Guardian is appointed by the Court of Chancery to act as guardian for individuals unable to make healthcare and financial decisions for themselves, and who have no friends or family willing or able to step into that role. This position is a career ladder based on certification as Registered Guardian by the Center for Guardianship Certification.

Preferred Qualification

  • Possession of a Bachelor’s Degree or more in behavioral science, social science, or related field OR at least five years of experience providing case management support to families.

Job Requirements

Applicants must have education, training, and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas:

  1. Experience in case management which includes assessing, planning, developing, implementing, monitoring, and evaluating options and services to meet an individual’s human service needs using effective counseling and interviewing techniques as well as other available resources such as service plans or case management systems.
  2. Experience in interpreting laws, rules, regulations, standards, policies, and procedures
  3. Experience in making recommendations as part of a client’s service plan such as clinical treatment, counseling, or determining eligibility for services/benefits.
  4. Experience in narrative report writing.
  5. Possession of a valid Delaware Class D driver’s license or its equivalent.
  6. Ability to communicate courteously and effectively, both verbally and in writing.
