Deputy Attorneys General, with critical support from criminal special investigators, victim service specialists, paraprofessionals, and administrative staff, prosecute criminal cases, enforce consumer laws, provide counsel to state agencies, ensure the public's access to open government, protect the abused, and much more.

Summary Statement

The Delaware Department of Justice is seeking a Deputy Attorney General (“DAG”) to join its Civil Division Affirmative Litigation Unit, to represent the Division of Human and Civil Rights (“DHCR”). DHCR is the Delaware agency responsible for enforcing the Federal Fair Housing Act, Delaware Fair Housing Act (“DFHA”), and Delaware Equal Accommodations Law. DHCR also participates in the mediation of hate crimes, police and community conflict, school related issues, and state employment. Knowledgeable and experienced DHCR staff conduct training on fair housing and equal accommodations to residents, community groups, housing providers, businesses and other organizations.

Pay Grade A16 DAG III  Salary Range $95,095/min  $99,360/max
Pay Grade A18 DAG IV  Salary Range $104,535/min  $109,710/max 
Pay Grade A20 DAG V  Salary Range $115,920/min  $120,510/max 

Essential Functions

The DHCR DAG will represent the Division and will serve as a subject matter expert on DHCR’s statutory functions, including equal accommodations and fair housing.  Other responsibilities include, but are not limited to, providing legal advice on matters related to personnel management, drafting and reviewing legislation and regulations, procurement law and Freedom of Information Act compliance, drafting and reviewing contracts, requests for proposals, and representing the agency or agency officers and employees in judicial and administrative proceedings.

The DHCR DAG will prosecute DFHA cases in administrative proceedings before the Delaware Human and Civil Rights Commission and in judicial proceedings in Superior Court. 

The skills required for this position include the ability to evaluate cases, determine resolutions, and anticipate legal issues with the ability to research accurately and effectively, as well as the ability to give sound legal advice to an agency client, based upon a thorough review of the relevant regulations, statutes, and other authorities. The DHCR DAG must have or be able to develop a good working relationship with other Deputy Attorneys General, support staff and agency personnel.  The DHCR DAG must have the ability and determination to learn and apply the relevant laws and court rules. Membership in Delaware Bar is required.
