Summary Statement

Supervises nurses, supervisors, and staff in assigned units through clinical operations oversight and direction, plans, and assignments. Reviews and evaluates various documents, unit goals, and employee performance. Trains, hires, terminates, and disciplines. Participates in committees, management union negotiations, and meetings. Interprets, implements, monitors, and initiates new or revised nursing goals, objectives, policies, and procedures. Works with nurses, supervisors, direct care staff, and others. Monitors and maintains budget allocations. Functions in the absence of the DON.

  • Provides or evaluates direct nursing care.
  • Develops, implements and/or reviews nursing care plans.
  • Provides health care instruction and guidance to individuals, families, community groups and/or nursing home facilities in the management of their health care needs.
  • Maintains an effective working relationship with other members of the treatment team.
  • Prepares and submits records, reports, evaluations and forms. 
  • Participates in and make recommendations regarding quality assurance activities. 

Job Requirements

JOB REQUIREMENTS for Assistant Nursing Director: 

Applicants must have education, training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas:

 

Long Term Care:

  1. Possession of a Delaware Registered Nurse license OR multi-state compact license.
  2. At least three years' experience as a Registered Nurse in Long Term Care Nursing OR a Bachelor's degree or higher in Nursing and at least two years' experience as a Registered Nurse in Long Term Care Nursing OR a Master's degree or higher in Nursing and at least one year experience as a Registered Nurse in Long Term Care Nursing.
  3. Knowledge of staff supervision acquired through course work, academic training, training provided through an employer, or performing as a lead worker overseeing the work of others; OR supervising staff which may include planning, assigning, reviewing, and evaluating the work of others; OR supervising through subordinate supervisors a group of professional, technical, and clerical employees.
  4. Knowledge of developing policies and procedures.
  5. Knowledge of budget development which includes analyzing financial data and making long- and short-range plans and projections.

Conditions of Hire

Pre-employment Drug Testing: Upon a conditional offer, you must undergo pre-employment drug testing as part of the hiring process.

Criminal background check: A satisfactory criminal background check is required as a condition of hire.  The recruiting agency may require the applicant to pay for the criminal background check as part of the conditional offer of hire.

Upon a conditional offer, the applicant must undergo a pre-employment base line two step tuberculin skin test (TST) as part of the hiring process.
