Summary Statement

This year-round casual seasonal part time position is responsible for facilitating quality guest experiences, from conducting interpretive programs that enhance historic consciousness, to fostering affinity for the cultural and natural resources stewarded by Delaware State Parks and providing exemplary customer service.  This position reports to the Interpretive Programs Manager and will have the opportunity to craft interpretive programs and perform in specialized First-Person programs.  Applicants must be available to work weekends, evenings and holidays as scheduled.

Essential Functions

Essential functions are fundamental, core functions common to all positions in the class series and are not intended to be an exhaustive list of all job duties for any one position in the class. ·       Lead school and public educational programs tied to State standards to increase awareness and understanding of Delaware’s cultural resources.

·       Develop and maintain exhibits, educational and historical site material.

·       Provide general customer service and park information to visitors.

·       Plan, organize and conduct interpretive walks, programs and tours.

·       Perform custodial services in historic sites and offices.

·       Set-up, monitor and provide support for park programs and special events.

·       Must demonstrate responsibility, dependability and good communication skills.

·       Maintain a positive attitude.

·       Other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

Applicants must have education, training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas:

1.     Six months experience working with children and young adults such as environmental educator/classroom assistant, academic/athletic tutoring, camp counselor, or youth volunteer.

2.     Experience with care and handling of animals.

3.     Knowledge of natural, cultural, historical resources or parks and recreation.

4.     Knowledge of public speaking or interpretation.

5.     Possession of a valid Driver's License (not suspended, revoked or cancelled, or disqualified from driving).

This is a Casual/Seasonal position which is a non-pension eligible position without healthcare and/or other benefits.
