Summary Statement

This position works within the Administrative Office of the Courts and serves at the pleasure of the State Court Administrator.

  1. Experience with litigation
  2. Experience with contracts and request for proposals administration

Essential Functions

Working under the supervision of the Chief of Legal Services, the Chief Staff Attorney is responsible for legal and administrative duties, as required to support the AOC’s mission of providing services in the areas of, but not limited to: contracts and procurement; legislation; human resources; court interpreter program; grant management; pro se services; and others. Duties include drafting, reviewing, or renewing contracts and requests for proposals; coordinating and tracking litigation services; drafting and monitoring new legislation; responding to record requests; conduction legal research; drafting legal memoranda; providing legal advice to the AOC; serving as staff for internal and external committees; drafting administrative policies; reports, and other documents; and any other job-related duties as deemed necessary. This position may include supervisory responsibilities. A candidate for this position must have excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Job Requirements

Applicants must have education, training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas:

  1. Graduation from an accredited law school/member in good standing of the Delaware State Bar.
  2. Minimum of five to ten years of work experience as an attorney. Experience with litigation, contract and RFP administration, and the legislative process is preferred.
  3. Excellent research and writing skills.
  4. Outstanding analytical and problem-solving skills.
  5. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  6. Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  7. Ability to work in an environment where priorities may change daily due to internal or external demands.
  8. A cover letter and resume.  A legal writing sample may be requested at a later date.

Conditions of Hire
