Summary Statement

This position participates fully in regulatory radiation control field work and administrative work with the Division of Public Health’s Office of Radiation Control. Successful candidate will qualify as an x-ray facility inspector and will train other inspectors on higher modality radiation systems and to perform inspections of all assigned modalities used by healing arts and industrial, educational, or research and development practice communities. Position will also participate in emergency preparedness and response including training, drills, etc. as needed.

Selective Requirement

Selective Requirements must be met in addition to the job requirements.  Applicants who do not possess the selective requirement will not be qualified.

  1. Possess an FDA certification in Mammography.
  2. Certification in Radiological Accident Assessment Concepts (RAAC) for emergency response.

Essential Functions

  • Conducts field studies or inspections and evaluations for compliance with permit and regulatory requirements; observes, collects, analyzes, reviews and interprets data from standard field studies, compliance inspections, various regulatory submissions or literature and makes recommendations.
  • Performs statistical analysis of data.
  • Conducts technical reviews and makes recommendations on permit applications or other various regulatory submissions to ensure compliance with regulations.
  • Prepares permits, technical reports and/or enforcement case documents.
  • Responds to technical/regulatory inquiries from other state, local and federal agencies as well as public and private organizations or individuals.

Job Requirements

JOB REQUIREMENTS for Environmental Scientist IV
Applicants must have education, training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas:
  1. Possession of a Masters degree or higher in an environmentally related scientific discipline OR Bachelors degree or higher in an environmentally related scientific discipline and current professional certification.
  2. Possession of scientific prominence or recognition with publication in a scientific or trade journal.
  3. Three years experience in environmental or natural resources project management which includes planning, developing, implementing, managing and evaluating environmental or natural resources projects to ensure objectives are met.
  4. Three years experience in analyzing and evaluating scientific data.
  5. Three years experience in interpreting environmental laws, rules, regulations, standards, policies and procedures.
