DelDOT is Now Offering Sign-on Bonuses for Engineers!

The Delaware Department of Transportation (DelDOT) recognizes its Engineers are a highly valued resource and play a critical role in ensuring the State’s infrastructure is safe, reliable, dependable, and sustainable.  For that reason we are now providing monetary recruitment incentives to new DelDOT Engineers in accordance to our Recruitment Program Policy and Procedures.

The program provides recruitment incentives as follows:

Sign-On Bonus– Incentives are based on the position classification:

  • $4,000 Engineer I
  • $5,000 Engineer II
  • $6,000 Engineer III
  • $7,000 Engineer IV

Incentives are paid three months from the initial date of employment. New employees accepting this recruitment bonus must commit to two consecutive years of employment with DelDOT in the Engineer I-IV series.  Must be a new hire to the State of Delaware or new to the Engineer classification series within the State of Delaware

Summary Statement

The Department has various engineering opportunities available statewide for project engineers in road and bridge design; traffic design and operations; and construction fields. These positions use the knowledge gained in college coursework to plan, design, construct, and maintain roads, bridges, and roadway infrastructure used to meet the Department's Capital Transportation Program and ensure timely project delivery.

Essential Functions

Essential functions are fundamental, core functions common to all positions in the class series and are not intended to be an exhaustive list of all job duties for any one position in the class.  Since class specifications are descriptive and not restrictive, incumbents can complete job duties of similar kind not specifically listed here.
  • Drafts, develops and modifies engineering designs, plans and specifications.
     
  • Reviews permit applications, blueprints and/or designs prepared by others to ensure compliance with specifications and regulations.
     
  • Applies the principles and theories of science and mathematics to research and develop solutions to technical problems.
     
  • Plans and conducts field studies, surveys, research and development projects, inspections and/or investigations to collect data and ensure conformance to state/federal laws and regulations.
     
  • Tests or evaluates materials, equipment, systems and facilities.
     
  • Plans and coordinates engineering projects.
     
  • Reviews, analyzes and reports on the status of projects and/or regulatory conformance.
     
  • Develops cost estimates for project time and materials.
     
  • Provides technical guidance and training to technical staff.

Applicants must have education, training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas: 

  1. Possession of a Bachelor's degree or higher (or have an anticipated graduation date within 12 months) in one or more of the discipline(s) of engineering shown below OR official notice of passing the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) examination administered by the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES) in one or more of the discipline(s) of engineering shown below.

  • Construction Engineering
  • Environmental Engineering
  • Industrial Engineering
  • Mechanical Engineering

JOB REQUIREMENTS for Engineer II 

Applicants must have education, training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas: 

1. Possession of a Bachelor's degree or higher (or have an anticipated graduation date within 12 months) in one or more of the discipline(s) of engineering shown below OR official notice of passing the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) examination administered by the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES) in one or more of the discipline(s) of engineering shown below.  

  • Chemical Engineering
  • Electrical Engineering
  • Civil Engineering
  • Construction Engineering
  • Environmental Engineering
  • Industrial Engineering
  • Mechanical Engineering
  • Agricultural Engineering 

    2. At least one year experience in one or more of the discipline(s) of engineering shown below OR possession of a Masters degree or higher in one or more of the discipline(s) of engineering shown below.

    3. Knowledge of engineering project management which includes planning, scheduling, staffing, coordinating, controlling, monitoring, evaluating and reporting on the status of engineering projects.

    Criminal background check: A satisfactory criminal background check is required as a condition of hire. The recruiting agency may require the applicant to pay for the criminal background check as part of the conditional offer of hire.

    Pre-employment Drug Testing: Upon a conditional offer, you must undergo pre-employment drug testing as part of the hiring process.

    As a condition of hire you must possess a valid driver's license (not suspended, revoked or cancelled, or disqualified from driving).

    Selection Process
