Summary Statement

A class incumbent provides case work assistance and support to case managers by providing assistance to clients.

Essential Functions

Essential functions are fundamental, core functions common to all positions in the class series and are not intended to be an exhaustive list of all job duties for any one position in the class.  Since class specifications are descriptive and not restrictive, incumbents can complete job duties of similar kind not specifically listed here.

  • Obtains and verifies client history in accordance with case manager's directives; makes collateral contacts as directed by case manager.
  • Works with parent, at the home, to assist with such problems as household management (meal planning/
    preparation, food storage, housekeeping, clothes shopping, etc.).
  • Acts as parent aid by providing role model on appropriate interaction/behavior with children.  Observes parental/child problems, progress and other information/concerns and reports to case manager.
  • Schedules appointments for clients and transports to required location (hospital, court, therapy session).
  • Provides coaching and assistance and lends support and encouragement to obtain desired outcome.
  • Provides office and telephone coverage in absence of case manager and refers problems to appropriate party.
  • Prepares and maintains a variety of records and forms required by the case manager in order to provide the necessary services to clients
  • May conduct initial assessments and make preliminary recommendations on needed services, or for ongoing cases, may make recommendations to case manager on a client's need for additional services.
  • Follows up on appointments with service provider and/or client to ensure scheduled appointments are kept.

Job Requirements

JOB REQUIREMENTS for Family Service Assistant II
Applicants must have education, training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas:

  1. Six months experience in health or human services support such as interviewing clients and assessing personal, health, social or financial needs in accordance with program requirements or coordinating with community resources to obtain client services.

This position is a classification organized under an exclusive bargaining representative (labor organization) that has been elected by employees as their representative for collective bargaining and other applicable terms and conditions of employment, in accordance with Title 29, Chapter 59 and Title 19, Chapter 13 and 16.  This position is covered by a collective bargaining agreement based on its individual terms.
