Deputy Attorneys General, with critical support from criminal special investigators, victim service specialists, paraprofessionals, and administrative staff, prosecute criminal cases, enforce consumer laws, provide counsel to state agencies, ensure the public's access to open government, protect the abused, and much more.

Summary Statement

The Criminal Division seeks a Deputy Attorney General to join the Violent Criminal Enterprises Unit (VCE) in New Castle County.  The VCE Unit specializes in prosecuting wiretap cases, organized crime, gang cases, and cases related to task force investigations and investigations conducted by the High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area Initiative (HIDTA).  The unit employs fundamental principles promoted by the HIDTA, Violence Reduction Network, and Intelligence Driven Prosecution programs, including (1) intelligence gathering and sharing; (2) strategic and focused prosecutions; and (3) collaborative law enforcement efforts.  Additionally, centralizing expertise for wiretaps and gang cases, given issues particular to these types of cases, creates the necessary specialization needed for effective prosecutions.

Essential Functions

This DAG position is primarily responsible for prosecuting drug and gun-related criminal cases under HIDTA and will also be expected to handle larger violent crime investigations, including shootings, robberies, racketeering, and gang cases.

Job Requirements

The ideal candidate must work well as part of a team; be motivated, creative, and proactive in the prosecution of violent crime. Strengths should include the ability to evaluate criminal cases, determine resolutions, and anticipate legal issues with the ability to research accurately and effectively. Must have or be able to develop a good working relationship with other Deputy Attorneys General, support staff, law enforcement and Court personnel. Must have demonstrated ability to try cases in Superior Court, and thorough knowledge of relevant laws and court rules. Membership in Delaware Bar required.
