Summary Statement

Schedule and host events, training, education and deliver community and school-based preventive services and prevention programs in New Castle, Kent, and Sussex County. Develop and deliver lesson plans, training, education for oral and systemic health. Assist with content and activities for the Oral Health Coalition. Provide preventive dental services when needed in dental wellness center or through portable dental program. Case Management for children with lack of access to care. Supervise and direct team members providing support for scheduled activities.

Essential Functions

Essential functions are fundamental, core functions common to all positions in the class series and are not intended to be an exhaustive list of all job duties for any one position in the class.   • Provides clinical oral hygiene services including but not limited to dental prophylaxis, scaling, sealant application, fluoride application, x-rays, and dental impressions.
  • Conducts initial mouth screening, checks oral health history and conducts oral cancer screenings.
  • Maintains patient documentation, paper charts and electronic dental records. Records patient-hygienist transactions so that the dental record accurately reflects the nature of the contact and the care or treatment provided.
  • Provides preventative oral health education to patients either in person or virtually.
  • Assists the Dentist with appropriate treatments and performs independent procedures as delegated and directed by a dentist in accordance with state regulations and law.
  • Sterilizes dental equipment in accordance with established guidelines and procedures.
  • Maintains the Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) Log.

Job Requirements

JOB REQUIREMENTS for Dental Hygienist

Applicants must have education, training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas:

  1. Possession of a Delaware Dental Hygienist License or eligibility for a Delaware license.
  2. Possession of a valid Driver's License (not suspended, revoked or cancelled, or disqualified from driving).

Additional Posting Information

This is a Casual/Seasonal position which is a non-pension eligible position without healthcare and/or other benefits.

Conditions of Hire
