Environmental Scientist II

Help ensure product and worker safety related to pesticide use as Delaware creates a recreational marijuana/cannabis industry. This position will work in a taskforce with Delaware Alcohol Tobacco Enforcement and the Office of the Marijuana Commissioner and will visit active grow facilities to monitor and regulate pesticide use. This position will also inspect proper use and sale of pesticides by traditional applicators including farmers, custom agriculture applicators, pest control applicators, lawn care applicators, and various pesticide retailers.

Essential functions are fundamental, core functions common to all positions in the class series and are not intended to be an exhaustive list of all job duties for any one position in the class. • Conducts field studies or inspections and evaluations for compliance with permit and regulatory requirements; observes, collects, analyzes, reviews and interprets data from standard field studies, compliance inspections, various regulatory submissions or literature and makes recommendations.
   
• Performs statistical analysis of data.
   
• Conducts technical reviews and makes recommendations on permit applications or other various regulatory submissions to ensure compliance with regulations.
   
• Prepares permits, technical reports and/or enforcement case documents.
   
• Responds to technical/regulatory inquiries from other state, local and federal agencies as well as public and private organizations or individuals.

JOB REQUIREMENTS for Environmental Scientist II
Applicants must have education, training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas:

1. Possession of a Bachelors degree or higher in Life, Physical, or Applied Science or related field.
2. Six months experience in analyzing and evaluating scientific data.
3. Six months experience in interpreting laws, rules, regulations, standards, policies, and procedures.
4. Six months experience in using an automated information system to enter, update, modify, delete, retrieve/inquire and report on data.
5. Six months experience in technical report writing.
