Deputy Attorneys General, with critical support from criminal investigators, social workers, paraprofessionals, and administrative staff, prosecute criminal cases, enforce consumer laws, provide counsel to state agencies, ensure the public's access to open government, protect the abused, and much more.

Summary Statement

The Delaware Department of Justice seeks a Deputy Attorney General for the Civil Division in the Defensive Litigation Unit in New Castle County.  This Deputy Attorney General will represent the State, its agencies, officials, and employees in all civil litigation in wide variety of proceedings in federal and state court, including civil rights, employment, social services, law enforcement, corrections, and other litigated matters arising out of State operations and legislation.  Cases frequently present questions of administrative law, federal and state constitutional law, and statutory interpretation. The DAG may also be required to render advice to State agencies, officials, and employees with regard to civil litigation and settlement of lawsuits. The DAG will work closely with and be supported by paralegals and administrative assistants.

Pay Grade A14 DAG II         Salary Range $86,100/min  $90,300/max 
Pay Grade A16 DAG III  Salary Range $95,095/min  $99,360/max
Pay Grade A18 DAG IV  Salary Range $104,535/min  $109,710/max 
Pay Grade A20 DAG V  Salary Range $115,920/min  $120,510/max 

Essential Functions

The ideal candidate will have experience in civil litigation, preferably including depositions, oral argument, and courtroom experience. This position seeks a bright, hardworking, and responsive attorney with good judgment and attention to detail. The selected candidate should also be comfortable handling a large caseload independently without extensive supervision.  

Membership in Delaware Bar is required; this DAG must be admitted to the District of Delaware, the Third Circuit Court of Appeals, or eligible for admission to those courts.   Travel within the State may be necessary. 

This DAG will handle additional assignments as directed by the State Solicitor, Deputy State Solicitor, Unit Head, or Assistant Unit Head.

Job Requirements

1. Admitted to practice law in the State of Delaware.
2. Admitted to the District Court of Delaware, Third Circuit Court of Appeals, or eligible admission to those courts.
3. Prior civil litigation experience.
