Summary Statement

The incumbent provides nursing services including, but not limited to: direct nursing care, follow up assessments, implementing nursing care plans, and coordination of health care services for the residents. The incumbent will clinically supervise and evaluate the care and treatment provided to the residents by the certified nursing assistants and assists CNAs in care and treatments. In addition, regular contact with residents, families, nursing staff, physicians, dietary, pharmacy, administration, and other ancillary departments of the facility as required.

Essential Functions

Essential functions are fundamental, core functions common to all positions in the class series and are not intended to be an exhaustive list of all job duties for any one position in the class.   • Administers treatments as directed.
  • Takes and records vital signs (temperature, blood pressure, pulse and respiration).
  • Pours, administers, charts and records medications.
  • Gives prescribed intramuscular and subcutaneous injections and inoculations.
  • Observes patient behavior and condition and reports changes to appropriate staff. 
  • Records information on patients' charts.

Job Requirement Series

JOB REQUIREMENTS for Licensed Practical Nurse I
Applicants must have education, training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas:

  1. Possession of a Delaware Practical Nurse license, Delaware temporary license or multi-state compact license.

JOB REQUIREMENTS for Licensed Practical Nurse II
Applicants must have education, training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas:

  1. Possession of a Delaware Practical Nursing license or multi-state compact license.
  2. At least six months experience as a Practical Nurse.

JOB REQUIREMENTS for Licensed Practical Nurse III
Applicants must have education, training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas:
  1. Possession of a Delaware Practical Nursing license or multi-state compact license.
  2. At least eighteen months experience as a Practical Nurse.

This is a Casual/Seasonal position which is a non-pension eligible position without healthcare and/or other benefits.

This position is a classification organized under an exclusive bargaining representative (labor organization) that has been elected by employees as their representative for collective bargaining and other applicable terms and conditions of employment, in accordance with Title 29, Chapter 59 and Title 19, Chapter 13 and 16.  This position is covered by a collective bargaining agreement based on its individual terms.
