Introduction

DNREC works to keep our waters clean and plentiful. It studies and finds ways to manage water as a functional part of the landscape, looking at individual watersheds and drainage areas.

Summary Statement

These two positions reside in the Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control Division of Water. One position is housed in the Commercial and Government Services Section which serves a diverse, state-wide customer base of commercial, industrial, and municipal permittees, and the other position is housed in the Resource Protection Section which provides inspection, compliance, and enforcement support services for the Division of Water.  Both positions assist in protecting Delaware's water resources with a focus on environmental monitoring/sampling and by providing technical support to the state-wide water supply and wastewater permitting and compliance programs.

Essential Functions

Essential functions are fundamental, core functions common to all positions in the class series and are not intended to be an exhaustive list of all job duties for any one position in the class.   • Collects, analyzes, and interprets field samples, scientific literature and statistical data. 
     
  • Supervises and documents the installation of wells; inspects and compiles data regarding existing wells, waste disposal sites, and underground storage facilities.
     
  • Summarizes data used in studies, projects, plans, specifications and research.
     
  • Performs mathematical calculations to aid in the selection of alternatives.
     
  • Reviews and comments on permit applications.
     
  • Provides technical and regulatory information.

Job Requirement Series

JOB REQUIREMENTS for Hydrologist I
Applicants must have education, training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas:

  1. Possession of a Bachelors degree or higher in Geology, Hydrology or related field. 
  2. Knowledge of hydrogeology and stratigraphy.
  3. Knowledge of collecting hydrologic field data such as geologic descriptions, water levels and water samples.
  4. Knowledge of technical report writing.

JOB REQUIREMENTS for Hydrologist II
Applicants must have education, training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas:

  1. Possession of a Bachelors degree or higher in Geology, Hydrology, or related field.
  2. Six months experience in hydrogeology and stratigraphy.
  3. Six months experience in collecting hydrologic field data such as geologic descriptions, water levels and water samples.
  4. Six months experience in interpreting laws, rules, regulations, standards, policies, and procedures.
  5. Six months experience in technical report writing.
  6. Knowledge of analyzing and interpreting hydrogeologic data and making technical recommendations.
