Deputy Attorneys General, with critical support from criminal special investigators, victim service specialists, paraprofessionals, and administrative staff, prosecute criminal cases, enforce consumer laws, provide counsel to state agencies, ensure the public's access to open government, protect the abused, and much more.

Summary Statement

The Delaware Department of Justice, Family Division, is excited to announce an opportunity in its Criminal & Delinquency Unit in Kent County for a Deputy Attorney General to join the team. This Unit has a high volume of cases and several court calendars scheduled each week. Deputy Attorneys General in this Unit are responsible for drafting motions and briefs, conducting legal research, extending and negotiating plea agreements, and taking matters to trial. 

The anticipated start date for this position is February 9, 2026.

**The salary of $87,458 for the Deputy Attorney General I position applies to candidates who are admitted to practice law in any U.S. jurisdiction

Essential Functions

The Deputy Attorneys General in this Unit are responsible for compiling and producing discovery, drafting motions and briefs, performing research, extending and negotiating plea agreements, and taking matters to trial.  This is a Unit with a high volume of cases and several court calendars scheduled per week.  Deputy Attorneys General in this Unit are responsible for prosecuting both juvenile delinquency and truancy cases.  

Job Requirements

A qualified candidate’s strengths will include knowledge of criminal law and procedure, the ability to evaluate criminal cases, determine resolutions, and anticipate legal issues with the ability to research accurately and effectively.  Candidates must have the ability to learn and apply the relevant laws and court rules.   Candidates must also have or be able to develop a good working relationship with other Deputy Attorneys General, support staff and Court personnel.  Membership in Delaware Bar required.
