Summary Statement

This position is responsible for administration of various programming functions within Delaware State Parks and supports delivery of interpretive programming across the state. Coordination, expansion, and sustainability for statewide programs such as Passport, First Day Hikes, Delaware Family Campout and virtual and statewide school program initiatives is required. The Interpretive Specialist also provides support by ensuring accuracy and relevancy of data, reporting and policy manuals, and assisting with tracking of program registration and submission.

Essential Functions

  • Coordinate and support programs and initiatives that will increase the public’s awareness of their surrounding environment and associated natural, historic and cultural resources, and foster the appreciation, enjoyment and stewardship of Delaware State Parks.
  • Coordinate, develop and monitor associated budgets for statewide programming initiatives such as First Day Hikes, virtual / statewide school program initiatives and camp-outs.
  • Track, support and assist with planning for interpretive training, certification and upkeep of associated interpretive manuals among other projects. 
  • Support interpretive administration work within the Interpretive Services Team (data, reporting, program registration and submission) and help create and maintain systems for organizing, tracking and streamlining projects. 
  • Support projects within the Interpretive Services Team (interpretative exhibits, publications, grants, DEIA initiatives, marketing materials and data collection)
  • Support the team with identification and implementation of statewide interpretive grant awards.
  • Must be able to demonstrate responsibility, dependability and good communication skills 
  • May supervise interns or staff 
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

Applicants must have education, training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas

  1. Six months experience planning and delivering interpretive programs for adults and children.
  2. Six months experience coordinating and promoting special events or initiatives. 
  3. One year experience in interpreting rules, regulations, policies and procedures. 
  4. One year experience using Microsoft Office Programs including Outlook, Excel, and Publisher. 
  5. Possession of a valid driver's license (not suspended, revoked or cancelled, or disqualified from driving).

This position will have Statewide responsibilities which requires travel throughout the State.  The State of Delaware provides transportation services to State agencies.
