Delaware's Attorney General, the State's chief law enforcement officer, has a broad responsibility to combat crime, uphold civil rights, safeguard families, fight fraud, and protect consumers in the First State.
In meeting this mission, Attorney General Kathy Jennings is supported by teams of talented lawyers and staff in the Criminal, Civil, Family, Fraud and Consumer Protection, and Civil Rights and Public Trust Divisions. Each of the more than 500 staff who work in the Office of the Attorney General are dedicated to serving all Delawareans with integrity and passion.
Deputy Attorneys General, with critical support from criminal special investigators, victim service specialists, paraprofessionals, and administrative staff, prosecute criminal cases, enforce consumer laws, provide counsel to state agencies, ensure the public's access to open government, protect the abused, and much more.
The Human Trafficking Unit, established in 2022 by the Delaware Department of Justice, is a specialized team dedicated to investigating and prosecuting cases involving forced labor and sex trafficking across the state. The unit takes a proactive, victim-centered approach, working closely with law enforcement agencies, service providers, and community partners to dismantle trafficking operations, support survivors, and raise public awareness. It plays a key role in identifying trafficking patterns, executing search warrants, and pursuing criminal charges against traffickers and those who contribute to the demand.
The Special Investigator will support the Human Trafficking Unit by conducting investigative work aimed at identifying, disrupting, and prosecuting trafficking operations. The position location is to be determined and may be based in New Castle, Kent, or Sussex County. This role involves close coordination with law enforcement partners, prosecutors, and victim services organizations. The Special Investigator may also be assigned to assist with investigations in other units within the Criminal Division and could be based in any of the three counties as operational needs dictate. The position may also be assigned to other investigative or operational duties in furtherance of the Department of Justice’s mission, as outlined in 29 Del. C. § 2504, which authorizes the Attorney General and the Department of Justice to investigate matters involving public peace, safety, and justice, and to direct the activities of state detectives.
