Summary Statement

This role will be an administrator and configure various software platforms, aggregate data from various sources, utilize the latest versions of Windows server/desktop OS& scripting tools to automate processes/increase efficiencies, perform vendor management and info security/compliance duties.  This position will lead/track Service Desk/Desktop IT equipment life cycling/deployment/upgrade activities.  

Essential Functions

  • Performs systems analysis and design employing information needs analysis, requirements analysis and design alternative analysis.
  • Provides alternative design proposals including cost/benefit analyses.
  • Writes computer program specifications. 
  • Designs computer program logic flow, writes new and modifies existing computer programs, develops test data, tests and debugs computer programs.
  • Provides user orientation and training in new/modified applications.
  • May serve as team leader periodically as projects dictate to include reviewing computer programs for accuracy and efficiency and coordinating the testing and production of new/modified system capabilities.
  • May train lower level application programmers and support specialists.
  • Writes progress and incident reports.
  • Writes operational, program and user documentation.
  • Performs related work as required.

Job Requirements

JOB REQUIREMENTS for Senior Application Support Specialist
Applicants must have education, training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas:

  1. Six months experience in computer programming languages including the latest generation.
  2. Six months experience in database management systems which includes database design, testing, and implementation.
  3. Six months experience in information systems analysis and design.

Additional Posting Information

This position maintains the team’s daily workload of technical projects, ServiceNow incident tickets, requests, tasks, and change requests across the State. In this position, an employee is will use provide excellent IT customer service and demonstrate proficiency in written and verbal communication. The employee must provide second/third level technical support through timely, efficient resolution of issues and by engineering creative solutions to satisfy customer needs. This includes handling incidents that may impact one or multiple agencies, processing changes and executing large projects. An employee in this role is expected to manage the creation and deletion of file shares, home directories and permissions, computer and email accounts and user groups in the State’s environment.  They will install, configure, secure, and upgrade non-core software products, as well as ensure the integrity of the end-user environment, proactively address service issues, and implement automation routines. In addition, an employee in this role may also provide training and mentorship to less experienced team members, as needed and is expected to maintain documentation for building out processes and knowledgebases. In this role, the applicant will use the following tools and products: PowerShell and Scripting Languages; KACE SMA, Desktop Authority, GPO and SCCM; VMWare, VDI and Citrix; Infoblox; Stealth Audit; Printer Logic; Bomgar; SQL/MYSQL; ServiceNow; and willingness to learn new technologies needed.

This position will have after-hours on call rotation.  A planned IT centralization may change work location.  Position is limited term until 06/30/2023 and may be extended should funding be available.
