Summary Statement

This position manages the retail sales program for the Delaware State Parks.  This would include procurement and inventory management for all retail products for Campground stores, Nature Stores and Retail locations within State Parks.  Other duties include training park staff on selling retail products using Point of Sale (POS). 

Preferred Qualification

Applicants who do not possess the preferred qualification will still be eligible to compete for this position if job requirements are met.

  1. Possession of an Associate’s degree or higher in retail merchandising or related field.

Essential Functions

Essential functions are fundamental, core functions common to all position in the class series and are not intended to be an exhaustive list of all job duties for any one position in the class.  Since class specifications are descriptive and not restrictive, incumbents can complete job duties of similar kind not specifically listed here.

  • Manages the sale of retail products for State parks including campgrounds, nature centers and park offices.
  • Conducts research and analysis on purchasing, inventory, buying patterns and other retail sales data to react quickly to market trends.
  • Procures all resale products using established state procurement guidelines.
  • Trains State park staff in sales and marketing techniques, operating procedures and point of sales system.  
  • Performs inventory audits at all sales locations.
  • Identifies and evaluates potential new retail locations. 
  • Prepares a variety of reports for inventory, product sales, etc. 
  • Utilizes skill in conducting research studies.
  • Maintains knowledge of budget analysis and administration.
  • Tracks inventory.
  • Maintains and compiles fiscal and narrative records and reports.
  • Must be able to demonstrate responsibility, dependability and good communication skills.
  • Maintain a positive attitude.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

Applicants must have education, training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas:

  1. Two years experience in conducting studies or performing analysis on sales projections and market trends.
  2. Two years experience in retail procurement.
  3. Two years experience in inventory management.
  4. One year experience in using standard computer software programs for word processing, spreadsheets or databases.
  5. Possession of a valid driver's license (not suspended, revoked or cancelled, or disqualified from driving).

Criminal background check:  A satisfactory criminal background check is required as a condition of hire.  The recruiting agency may require the applicant to pay for the criminal background check as part of the conditional offer of hire.
