Summary Statement

The incumbent in this position is responsible for operating vehicles for the transport of physically, mentally, and developmentally disabled persons between their place of residence and to hospitals. doctor's offices, etc. from a State operated facility. The incumbent may be required to lift and assist disabled residents in and out of vehicles and other facilities. The job position involves understanding and dealing with the special needs of residents displaying disruptive behaviors. The incumbent is also responsible for the routine maintenance and cleaning of the vehicles and may operate other facilities support service vehicles.

Essential Functions

  • Operates vehicles providing inter-community transportation of incapacitated persons and volunteer workers.
  • Ensures seating and wheelchair restraints are appropriate to the specific needs of each person.
  • Performs routine maintenance to ensure safe mechanical condition and cleanliness of vehicles.
  • Assists with passengers boarding and exit of vehicles and other facilities.
  • May operate facility support service vehicles such as trash, laundry and food trucks.

Applicants must have education, training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas:

  1. Possession of a valid Driver's License (not suspended, revoked or cancelled, or disqualified from driving). 

Additional Posting Information

Conditions of Hire

Pre-employment Drug Testing:  Upon a conditional offer, you must undergo pre-employment drug testing as part of the hiring process.

Criminal background check:  A satisfactory criminal background check is required as a condition of hire.  The recruiting agency may require the applicant to pay for the criminal background check as part of the conditional offer of hire. 

Upon a conditional offer, the applicant must undergo a pre-employment base line two step tuberculin skin test (TST) as part of the hiring process.

This position is a classification organized under an exclusive bargaining representative (labor organization).  The candidate selected for this position shall be asked to join and pay dues to the labor organization or may, decline joining the labor organization and not pay dues or a fee.  The labor organization has been elected by employees as their representative for collective bargaining and other work related purposes.
