Summary Statement

The incumbent in this position will be responsible for the repair and preventive maintenance of all resident wheel chairs, either electric or manual, in a long term care facility. Other duties include: installation and repair of alarm systems of various types that are used throughout the facility to help assure resident’s safety, maintaining spreadsheets for inventory and preventive maintain. The incumbent will also troubleshoot lift equipment for vendor repairs, assist with requests for specialized seat cushions, and respond to requests for seating consults. The incumbent will work with the Nursing and Physical Therapy Departments to coordinate safety plans on resident’s wheel chairs, walker, or specialized chairs. The incumbent may be required to travel to Delaware Hospital for the Chronically Ill for various meetings, assistance and other needs.

  • Constructs, repairs and maintains wheelchairs with individualized seating systems for clients/patients in an institutional facility.
     
  • Constructs adaptive equipment for clients/patients upon recommendation of Occupational, Physical Therapy or other staff.
     
  • Performs preventative maintenance/inspection of wheelchairs, electric wheelchairs, and scooters and responds to priority requests.
     
  • Maintains equipment and supplies.
     
  • May train/instruct individuals on the use and care of wheelchairs.

JOB REQUIREMENTS for Adaptive Equipment Technician I
Applicants must have education, training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas:

  1. Knowledge of constructing, repairing and modifying wheelchairs and adaptive equipment.
  2. Knowledge of record keeping.

Conditions of Hire

Upon a conditional offer, the applicant must undergo a pre-employment base line two step tuberculin skin test (TST) as part of the hiring process.

Criminal background check:  A satisfactory criminal background check is required as a condition of hire.  The recruiting agency may require the applicant to pay for the criminal background check as part of the conditional offer of hire.

Pre-employment Drug Testing:  Upon a conditional offer, you must undergo pre-employment drug testing as part of the hiring process.

This position is a classification organized under an exclusive bargaining representative (labor organization).  The candidate selected for this position shall be asked to join and pay dues to the labor organization or may, decline joining the labor organization and not pay dues or a fee.  The labor organization has been elected by employees as their representative for collective bargaining and other work related purposes.
