Summary Statement

The Department of Human Resources (DHR) seeks a detail-oriented individual who will use both social media and graphic design to support DHR’s Office of Women’s Advancement & Advocacy and the Division of Diversity Equity & Inclusion. The ideal candidate is a multi-talented creative team player. Duties include maintaining social media (calendar, creating graphics in Canva, video, video editing, drafting copy) and developing print media (posters, flyers, programs for events). The incumbent will use strong graphic design, print media, digital media and social media skills.

Essential Functions

  • Gathers, organizes, and formats information related to an agency's goals, objectives and services.
  • Promotes an agency's image consistent with the overall direction of the agency.
  • Coordinates timely and accurate responses and information to citizens, community groups or governmental agencies.
  • Encourages participation in the use of agency services.
  • Coordinates and conducts public meetings, media events or educational programs.
  • Ensures a mutual sharing of information with other agencies, media and the general public.
  • May supervise staff.

Job Requirements

JOB REQUIREMENTS for Social Media/Graphic Design Assistant

Applicants must have education, training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas:

  1. Six months experience in public relations or media relations to establish and promote a positive image and inform or influence specific audiences through the use of internal and external communications such as public forums, print or electronic media, speech writing, writing/editing, marketing, advertising, or special events.
  2. Six months experience in gathering, organizing, formatting and translating or interpreting information into forms more easily understood by the media or public, and disseminating the information through the use of print, broadcast or electronic media.
  3. Six months experience in public speaking which includes gathering, preparing and presenting information to the public or media groups.
  4. Knowledge of developing, planning and directing public events, campaigns, programs or services to meet community needs.

This is a Casual/Seasonal position which is a non-pension eligible position without healthcare and/or other benefits.

The State of Delaware recognizes the value of telework and flexible working schedules. This position is eligible for Telework according to the State of Delaware’s Alternative Work Arrangement Policy. More information will be shared at the time of interview.

In addition to reporting to 13 Reads Way Suite 202: (13 Reads Way, New Castle, DE, 19720), the applicant will need to report to the Carvel State Office Building: (820 N. French Street, Wilmington, DE 19801) once a week. The remaining hours are flexible in location, including a remote option.
