Introduction

The Division of Parks and Recreation owns and manages more than 26,000 acres of open space containing a wide range of natural, cultural and historic resources, which include ocean beaches and dunes, bald cypress wetlands, mature piedmont forest, coastal fortifications, historic cemeteries, prehistoric occupation sites elegant estates. The protection and preservation of these valuable resources allows the Division to provide a wide variety of recreational and educational opportunities for both Delawareans and visitors to the first state.

Summary Statement

  1. Team Leader ($16.00/hr): this position will lead a team that may include seasonal staff, interns, AmeriCorps members and volunteers.
  2. Team Member ($15.00/hr): Duties include, but are not limited to, manual and chemical control of invasive species, habitat restoration, nuisance wildlife management and assisting with the Divisions white-tailed deer management program.

Applicants must be available to work weekends, evenings and holidays as scheduled.

  • Field identification of native and invasive plant species.
  • Safe use of various hand tools and power tools.
  • Operate four-wheel drive vehicles.
  • Safe application of herbicides using a variety of application methods.
  • Complete paperwork associated with herbicide application tracking.
  • Provide excellent customer service and park information to visitors.
  • Must be able to demonstrate responsibility, dependability and good communication skills.
  • Maintain a positive attitude.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  1. Six months experience in supervising groups, staff or volunteers.

  4. Possession of a valid driver’s license (not suspended, revoked or cancelled, or disqualified from driving).

Team Member

This is an environmental stewardship summer job, not a summer camp experience; the participants will work in difficult conditions including mud, hot sun, and mosquitoes and flies.

This position will have Statewide responsibilities which requires travel throughout the State.  The State of Delaware provides transportation services to State agencies.
