Introduction


Delaware's Attorney General, the State's chief law enforcement officer, has a broad responsibility to combat crime, uphold civil rights, safeguard families, provide legal services to entirety of state government, and fight fraud. 

In the Civil Division, approximately 80 attorneys provide legal support to the executive branch agencies in the form of general counsel advice, administrative hearing prosecutions, board representation, and all stages of civil litigation.

The Delaware Department of Justice, Civil Division, Administrative Law and Education Unit, Kent County, is looking for a highly motivated and committed Deputy Attorney General (DAG) to serve as general counsel to administrative boards and commissions, primarily within the Delaware Division of Professional Regulation.

Pay Grade 16 DAG III         Salary Range $111,069/min $116,050/max

Pay Grade 18 DAG IV         Salary Range $122,094/min $130,056/max

Pay Grade 20 DAG V          Salary Range $137,215/min $147,318/max

*The salary of $95,329 for the Deputy Attorney General I position applies to candidates who hold active bar admission.

Essential Functions

The assigned DAG will provide legal advice to various professional administrative boards and commissions within the Delaware Division of Professional Regulation that regulate the practice of various licensed professions within the state, the Delaware Association of Professional Engineers, the Environmental Appeals Board, the Coastal Zone Industrial Control Board, Governor’s Advisory Council for Exceptional Citizens, and the Lottery Commission. The DAG will be expected to provide guidance on applicable legal standards and Freedom of Information Act compliance, draft and review legislation and regulations, attend public meetings, and represent the boards and commissions in administrative proceedings, including drafting orders, and in court on appeals from those proceedings. 

Job Requirements

The DAG must have strong legal writing skills. The DAG must be able to anticipate and properly address legal issues, conduct accurate and effective legal research, and provide sound legal advice. The DAG must be able to work independently, meet deadlines, and develop good working relationships with board members, other DAGs, and support staff.  Membership in the Delaware Bar is required.

The DAG must be available for some evening meetings. Flex time will be permitted.
