Summary Statement

This position works within the Justice of the Peace Court and serves at the pleasure of the Chief Magistrate.

Essential Functions

Essential Functions: 
•             Working under the supervision of the Chief Magistrate or designee, this position is responsible for legal and administrative duties, as required.
•             Conducting legal research; reviewing legal documents; drafting legal memoranda; administrative policies, reports and other documents; serving as staff for internal and external committees; assisting with development of legislation;
•             Providing legal advice and guidance to the Chief Magistrate, the Justice of the Peace Court Administrative Office staff and the individual Justices of the Peace.
•             The duties further include the coordination of Basic Legal Education (BLE) training for new judges, assisting in development of continuing legal education training content for Justices of the Peace and providing additional appropriate legal education support for judges and staff of the Justice of the Peace Court.
•             This employee must have excellent communication skills.

Job Requirements

Job Requirements:
1.            Graduation from an accredited law school and a minimum of five years of work experience as an attorney. 
2.            Admission to the Delaware Bar, with certification of good standing status.
3.            Excellent research and writing skills.
4.            Outstanding analytical and problem solving skills.

Criminal background check:  A satisfactory criminal background check is required as a condition of hire.  The recruiting agency may require the applicant to pay for the criminal background check as part of the conditional offer of hire.
