About the Office of Management and Budget (OMB)
The Office of Management and Budget (OMB) provides leadership, policy development, planning, and analysis to maximize the value of Delaware’s people, facilities, land, and financial resources. OMB supports the Governor’s policy agenda, manages the state’s budget and capital projects, oversees state facilities, delivers essential government support services, administers pensions, and operates the state’s central payroll system. Through these efforts, OMB ensures efficient and effective management of Delaware’s financial, human, and capital resources for the benefit of all Delawareans.

Essential Functions

About the Internship
Interns will support accounting and financial operations with responsibilities such as:

  • Analyzing and reconciling vouchers, ledgers, and statements

  • Monitoring expenditures for budget compliance

  • Reviewing financial transactions and accounts for accuracy

  • Compiling reports for state, federal, and special-funded programs

  • Assisting with budget preparation, cost projections, and forecasting

  • Supporting internal controls, policy reviews, and process improvements

  • Ensuring compliance with state and federal fiscal requirements

Ideal Candidate Qualifications: 
1. Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a degree program in Accounting, Business Administration, Economics, Finance, Business Management, Computer Information Systems, or a related field. (Minimum 2.5 GPA)
2. Currently seeking internship hours to fulfill degree program requirements.
3. Currently seeking an externship to apply academic knowledge and practical work experience within a related degree field. 
4. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) Adobe, and familiarity with financial reporting/accounting systems
5. Organized, detail-oriented, and able to take initiative with routine tasks.
6. Excellent written, verbal and presentation skills including the ability to prepare reports and communicate with staff at all levels.
7. Strong interest in accounting and finance with the ability to interpret accounting standards and government regulations.
8. Reliable transportation.

Additional Posting Information

OMB are currently seeking dedicated interns or externs located in Kent County to gain hands-on experience in government accounting, budgeting, and financial analysis. Interns will work under professional supervision, applying accounting principles while supporting fiscal operations that impact programs across the State of Delaware. 

Through completion of the program, Interns/Externs will gain the following skills:
